Senior High Conference July 2, 2009

Reporter: Matt

Early in the morning, the common area was REALLY cold!! Avery doesn't stand a chance at Jay's burns. And the rain goes on! Father Dan led Eucharist. Jello Snarf time! This was the second biggest event of today! Beth is gonna win, I bet. And I was totally right!!! She won by a split second, close 2nd was Quinniner! (Editor Comment: The official results were a dead tie after review of the videotape.)

The first biggest event was the dance!! The dance is going to be a beast!! Matt is gonna be the sweetest dancer on the floor. But before we got to party the night away, we had a meeting and not a very friendly one. It was called because a few people decided to bend the rules one too many times. The amount of silence that was in the meeting was really scary. No one spoke for a good 2 minutes. But after the meeting, the best was yet to come. At first the music was kind of sucky, but that all changed when Matt gave his iPod to the DJ aka Nick. So Matt is a pretty sweet dude, right? The party was awesome after that. During the dance, the room was so hot that people were sweating like crazy & walking in and out of the dance room, We even got Jay to dance to "Stayin' Alive". It was the best part of the night.

Senior High Conference Wednesday July 1, 2009

Reporter: R-Dizzle

Fourth day of the Senior High Conference has come and gone. Today was a bizarre day indeed; the most experimental. Today, after a long and informative lecture on the history of the Anglican Church from Jay, we traveled off campus to Chautauqua County Rural Ministries to clean and repaint their inventory room. "It was my favorite part of the day'" Father Dan smiles. After six hours and a coating of eggshell latex paint, the room was like new and we were shown off by a grateful staff.

After dinner, the Annual Senior High Talent Show kicked off in full force. Notable acts included the traditional Monty Python skit from from Glynn, Tim and Andrew B. Following was Beth singing "Already Gone" while accompanying herself on the guitar. Wrapping up the night was Glynn, Tim, Andrew T, and Andrew B. improvising the famous "Lumberjack Song" from Monty Python's Flying Circus. The talent show was Tim's favorite part of the day.

And then something truly bizarre occurred. For no reason, and through no fault of our own, a fire alarm sounded, sending the entire conference out into the rain. This was the best part of the day according to Natalie and Alexis Q. We stood out in the cold, wet weather for about five to ten minutes before re-entering and resuming normal activity.

During Compline, I was informed that Dominique and Meghan managed to cram themselves into one pair of pants. That's a talent that deserves recognition.

And that's the way the cookie crumbles,

Third day of the conference on-line readers. Last night, a thunderstorm rattled the walls of Hemingway Hall at around Midnight. On a whole, the opening of the heavens disrupted and woke the conferees, much to their dismay. "It woke me up", says Andrew B. "It was loud and disruptive of my night", Taylor agrees. Glynn claims that the storm, "was amongst the things that woke me up last night." But the entire conference wasn't disrupted. "I did not hear it." declares Sam. "The storm was great. I slept right through it," Quinn declares proudly.

The rain and storms continued through most of the morning, somewhat hampering outdoor classes. But a little fall of rain didn't stop Liz and Mother Ellen Brauza's class, "The Hunt for a World that Works", from venturing outside to locate stamps in a simplified version of letterboxing. Being a thunderstorm allowed no use of umbrellas, ensuring the class was adequately soaked to the bone.

But the rain broke and the sun came out shining, brightening our walk to the only day we had in the pool. Conferees frolicked in the pool for an hour and we headed to our picnic supper and "Kinda Sorta Beach Party".

The rain returned, full force, so our "Kinda Sorta Beach Party" was moved inside. But that did not stop Drew from dominating the limbo competition. When asked, Drew had this to say; "Winner, Winner, Winner, ow, ow, ow, back pain."

After a raveous game of keep-it-up, the day wound down, ending in the traditional Compline service. Tomorrow is another day.

Peace Out from R-Dizzle

So we all arrived safely at camp ... well almost all of us (more on that tomorrow!) It was so great to see old friends and begin to make new ones. After everyone had settled into their rooms, it was time for the fun to begin!!

The first order of business was housekeeping rules and with those out of the way, we set to getting on with the REAL business of camp ... silliness. The first order of business was a game where towers were built with cups, string and rubberbands .. oh and steady hands (and lots of laughter) ... GOOD JOB ALL!!

Next, there was a spelling test. Well, kinda ... spelling words with just your bodies and everyone was so creative. Impressive use of sign language and symbols even though some of the adults were a little dyslexic (but no names will be mentioned here since we are all frienbs!)

Thanks to Jay for letting us store our stress and troubles in the MAGIC BOX and thank you to Quinn for putting the lock on it so they would not escape.

Classes this year by the Bish, Fr. John Paul, Fr. Harry & Giselle, and the Brauzas were filled up quickly and the new teams were eagerly staffed without any serious injuries requiring Nurse Belle.

Our evening ended with Compline and then off to bed (well that was supposed to be the plan ...) to rest for exciting first full day of camp!!
